This installation, created for the Biennale de l'Image Tangible in 2023,

is a new version of the installation Mantras, presented in Istanbul in June 2022, during my solo exhibition "Floating Images",

Conceived as a visual score, composed of silk flags displaying a sample of digitally retouched images printed on both sides, this installation is offered in a version amplified by the presence of words and fragments of punctuation applied to the wall. These textual elements are derived from the alpha-numeric source codes that define these images. In this way, the visual materiality of the image dialogues with the immateriality of the source code that constitutes it, or perhaps it's the other way around...

These digital codes, in their crumbling and fragmentation, become a poetic semantic source, dialoguing with these silk flags to question what determines the image today.

The installation Mantras (a term whose Sanskrit etymology means "instrument of thought") features a visual corpus constructed from personal and collective photographs digitally reworked by pixelation. The image only reveals itself at a certain distance, blurred by its screening and cropping, like so many fragments of a fragmented memory. These images, passing through the code and then the digital screen, become a sensual, fluid element printed on the infra-thin screen of silk.

This cut-up, spatialized as a constellation, is part of a redefinition of the mnemonic spectres haunting digital space, which shape our environment: a world of floating images drawing on our own memory matrix.
